The Tax Council has just decided that Esport is an association sport. This means that associations within Esport do not have to pay VAT, just like other associations within gymnastics, handball, and other association activities.
DGI started the case on the basis of another case of amateur sports and VAT from 2017, which was before the European Court of Justice.
The case got the desired outcome. This means that sports associations do not have to submit VAT accounts, and are thus exempt from paying VAT. In this way, sports players can focus on the important thing within Esport, namely to develop a good training environment.
It is positive that Skat recognizes Esport on an equal footing with other associations. The lawyer group sees this as a positive step in the development of Esporten.
